Blur faces and plates
It finds faces by itself and marks them; you add the plates. That area is really pixelated: shrunk to a few pixels and stretched back, so the information is lost for good. The model also runs in your browser.
To publish a photo of a shop, an event or an accident you often have to cover the faces of whoever happened to be passing. Here they are found on their own: a detection model runs inside your browser, marks the faces it finds, and you add or remove whatever is needed. Number plates are marked by hand, for now.
The cover is a mosaic of large blocks, not a soft blur: a blur can be partly reversed, and a fine mosaic keeps eyes and mouth. When it finishes, the result itself is checked to confirm no detail is left in that area. The model and its engine are served from our own domain, so neither the photo nor anything of yours is sent to any recognition service.
FAQ
Is the photo sent to a face recognition service?
No. The model is downloaded to your browser and works there. You can check it in the network tab: no request goes out with the image.
What if it misses a face?
You add it by hand with a box. Automatic detection helps, but the last word is yours, which is why you can review the marks before applying.
Does it detect number plates?
Not automatically yet: there is no model with a clean licence we are happy with. You mark them by hand and they are covered just as well.
