See what a file says before you send it

A PDF, a photo or a spreadsheet carry things you cannot see when you open them: who made them, with which program, when, where the photo was taken, who appears in it and what personal data sits in the text. Here you see it all in one place and remove it in one go, without having to know what a metadata field is.

Metadata, personal data, faces and what you cannot see
Check it yourself: turn off your wifi and everything keeps working

A file is not only what you see when you open it. A PDF stores who wrote it, with which program, when it was created and when it was last touched, the comments somebody left along the way, the form fields that were filled in, and even the invisible text a scanner leaves under the image. A photo stores the phone model and the coordinates of the exact spot where it was taken. A Word document stores the name of whoever saved it last, the company name and how many times it has been revised.

Analysing a file looks at all of that in one pass and lays it out as a list, with one line explaining why each thing matters. You tick what you want gone, it is removed, and then Lacre analyses the clean file again to show you it is no longer there. All of it happens inside your browser: the file is not uploaded to any server, ours or anyone else's. You can switch off the wifi and check.

FAQ

Which file types does it understand?

PDFs, photos (JPG, PNG and WebP), Excel and CSV, and Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents. Drop anything else and it says so plainly instead of leaving you stuck.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It is a web page and it runs in the browser you already have, on your phone too. No accounts, no sign-up, nothing to install.

What if I only want to remove one thing?

Every finding has its own tick box. Untick whatever you want to keep (a comment you care about, say) and only the rest goes.
